Don't fall for the holiday scammers
Spanish police regularly get reports of on-line holiday scammers. Sadly this remains a fact of life - bit follow these simple steps to protect yourself.
- Never deal with anyone that insists on dealing with you using WhatsApp, make sure they use an official company email.
- You should be able to check who you are dealing with by calling the office- look for details on their website.
- Make sure any property you book has a tourism license.
- When you check-in expect your passport or ID card to be scanned, if your details are not collected you are not being checked-in according to the regulations.
- Never pay cash, use a card instead.
- Don't expect to pick your keys up from a key box - that's not legal, you must be checked-in in person at the property.
Are you British owning property in Spain?
Lets face it, and there is no sugar coating this, Brexit has dealt the vast majority of UK property owners a bad deal. Even the Spanish government could loose out on tax revenue in the wider sense if UK owners decide to quit. For most people renting has now become a far less economic proposition now that non-EU tax rules apply. Unless you really have to, selling right now would be a bad idea. The market is flooded with properties and there are countless new developments all in the pipeline, all this is driving prices down. If you don't believe us take a look at the quality Spanish press and do your own research.
With new visa rules in place, and more to come next year, even letting family and friends use your property is not as simple as it used to be. Add into all this the limit on the amount of time you can stay in the EU this can make getting the best from your property challenging.
We can't change the tax rules, and we can't do anything about the visa requirements. But we can offer you peace of mind; with our year-round key holding service, so even though you might not be able to get here as often as you like, we are on the ground to take care of things. So long as your property has a tourism license, we can also help when it comes to visits from family and friends by offering you a fully compliant check-in service along with the required holiday contract for immigration.
Didn't realize all of this? Well we are not kidding, it is the law and you can look it up on either the Spanish or UK government websites. Of course we would like your business, but if you don't choose us make sure you do choose a reputable company - remember if you have family or friends using your property they must be in possession of a proper holiday contract and they will need checking-in and must complete the police registration formalities. You might think it is a bit unfair, but it is you, as the property owner, who faces considerable fines for non-compliance.
